Student Court

The Student Court is the judicial body of the Student Government Association. The Student Court presides over cases arising from university violations, parking and traffic issues, and student mediation. The Student Court is also responsible for interpreting the governing documents of the SGA and will provide judicial reviews of such documents upon request by any member of the student body. If a student chooses the option, the Student Court can hear cases involving violations of the University Honor Code and Housing and Residence Life policies. The Student Court consists of seven Associate Justices and is chaired by the Chief Justice.

In cases that involve violations against the Honor Code or Housing and Residence Life policies, the Student Court is available to assist students in a hearing to ensure that their rights are not infringed upon. Please contact the Student Court's Student Advocacy Program (SAP) coordinator for more information (dbsgasap@erau.edu). The Student Court is not responsible nor expected to defend students during these proceedings. If needed, appropriate legal counsel should be consulted.

Parking Citation Appeals

One of the responsibilities of the Student Court is to help assist students with their parking citations. The Student Court has the authority to reduce or waive the fees associated with their parking citations under certain circumstances. The Chief Justice, along with the Associate Justices, will review each case and determine if the case has grounds for appeal. While students are encouraged to appeal their parking tickets, appealing a citation does not guarantee it will be waived or reduced.

If a financial hold has been placed on your account, and you are currently in the middle of an appeal process, it is encouraged that you pay the fine. Upon deciding whether or not your citation has been waived or reduced, you will be reimbursed the proper amount.

* Citations appealed beyond the 10-day limit from the date of issue will not be considered.

*The Student Court cannot process appeals for citations received in the parking garage. Please contact Campus Safety to appeal your citation from the parking garage.

*If you are an employee/faculty, please use the employee parking citation form on the Campus Safety ERNIE page.

Non-SGA or Group Mediation

A non-SGA organization or group may request an official judicial review in the event of an internal conflict. All interested parties in a non-SGA organization or group must agree to abide by the Student Court's verdict before the petition for judicial review is accepted by the Chief Justice.

The Chief Justice shall be provided with all relevant governing documents when the petition for judicial review is submitted. All relevant governing documents shall be confirmed for authenticity by both interested parties before the petition for judicial review is accepted.

A non-SGA organization or group may request a non-binding judicial interpretation, provided that the petitioner fully understands that the proceeding is non-binding and has no bearing on SGA funds, standing, or any other effect regardless of outcome.

  • Message From YOUR SGA Chief Justice

Hi everyone! My name is Ally, and I am honored to serve as your Chief Justice of the Student Court. My role is centered on fairness, accountability, and ensuring that every student is treated with respect throughout all processes that come before the Court. The Student Court exists to uphold the Student Code, protect student rights, and ensure due process, and I take that responsibility seriously in every decision we make.

To me, the Student Court is more than hearings, rulings, and procedures. It's about trust, transparency, and education. As Chief Justice, I lead and support a dedicated group of student justices, oversee Court operations, and work closely with SGA leadership and university partners to ensure our decisions are consistent, impartial, and grounded in integrity. I am committed to making the Court an approachable and accessible resource, not just for students directly involved in cases, but for the broader campus community as well.

One of my primary goals is to help students better understand their rights and responsibilities, and to ensure that the judicial process feels fair, clear, and respectful at every step. Whether you are navigating a parking appeal, participating in student leadership, or simply seeking guidance, I want you to feel confident that the Student Court exists to serve you. At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to uphold fairness, protect student voices, and contribute to a campus culture built on accountability, respect, and trust - one where every student knows they are heard and valued.

    -Ally Ramey,
    SGA Chief Justice 2025-2026
