The Student Government Association (SGA) election campaign season is underway, and soon, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for the students who will represent you over the next year. While elections may not always seem like a big deal, the SGA plays a role in decisions that impact student life in ways you might not always notice – funding for student organizations, academic resources, campus policies, and more. The people you elect will have a direct impact on these areas, which is why taking a few minutes to learn and vote matters.
One of the best ways to do that is by attending the Executive Ticket and Treasurer Debate on March 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Event Center. This is your chance to hear directly from those running for the highest positions in student government, understand their priorities, and see how they respond to questions that affect our campus community. Whether you have specific concerns or just want to make an informed decision, the debate is an opportunity to see who might be the best fit for these roles.
The SGA’s work often happens behind the scenes, but you may know it’s more public facing side, such as the divisions or the shuttle service. Furthermore, its influence is felt in areas that shape student life every day. The leaders chosen in this election will also be the ones advocating on behalf of students when working with university administration. Making an informed decision about who holds these positions ensures that student voices are represented in the conversations that matter.
As the Supervisor of Elections, my role is to ensure a fair, transparent, and accessible election process. Voting will take place from March 31 to April 2, and I encourage you to take a few moments to make a choice that reflects what you want to see from the SGA. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at dbsgasoe@erau.edu!
