About Us
Medi-Futures was originally founded at the University of Florida for their students interested in health professions. Medi-Futures has since expanded to other Florida colleges as satellite programs. The purpose of Medi-Futures is to increase opportunity for pre-health students to efficiently learn about a wide breadth of health careers, particularly for students from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds and create an accessible virtual format to gain exposure to medical professionals. In-person shadowing is limited by the number of students available in a medical facility, a particular wardrobe, transportation, and a fixed schedule. Virtual shadowing with Medi-Futures allows an unlimited amount of students to gain exposure, requires no uniform, transportation, and has a flexible schedule. This program is at no cost to the student, which makes it the most accessible means for students to gain experience with medical professionals first-hand. Additionally, Medi-Futures is beneficial for students with uncertain career paths as well as those with more defined paths. Allows rapid and broad exposure facilities efficient career selection and encourages students to ponder desired qualities in a career. The program facilitates student selection of a desirable career path sooner and thereby focusing efforts on pursuit of that career (whether in healthcare or not), which improves interdisciplinary collaboration via appreciation for many professions within our healthcare system. Featured careers include: physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, anesthetists, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, audiologists, clinical social workers, genetic counselors, and child life specialists
