Mia Vrchota

Freshman, BS Aerospace Engineering

"Hello, my name is Mia Vrchota, a freshman majoring in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics. As your student senator, my mission would be to foster an environment of community and inclusivity within the student body of Embry-Riddle. I will strive to create a community within our senate that benefits the student’s life both in and out of the classroom. Let’s work together to organize events that promote mentorship and advocate for resources that ensure every student feels they have a place to flourish academically and be empowered to make the best out of their experience here. As your senator, I hope to ensure all voices are heard, creating a vibrant tapestry of ideas and experiences that I commit to representing to the best of my ability."

  • What makes you a qualified candidate for this position?

"The student senate is a direct representative of the student population. I believe I am a qualified candidate because I witness the needs and wants of the students of our college request for and can represent these voices truthfully and directly. While I have not held any formal positions at this school before, I bring a wealth of outside experiences that have equipped me with the skills necessary to advocate for our collective interests. I will be devoted to developing an inclusive space, speaking on necessary conversations, and starting initiatives that celebrate our differences and unite us in our shared community. I believe every individual’s path includes valuable insights that continue to broaden my perspective. Through my love for learning about each person’s background, experiences, and perspectives, I have the empathy and understanding necessary to serve as a dedicated advocate for our student body. In those that have set the standard before me, I strive to make the difference students aspire to see on campus."

  • What is the purpose of the SGA Student Senate?

"The purpose of the SGA senate is to unite the student body across the colleges and bridge the gap between the SGA and the students. It is the senate’s responsibility to uphold the voices of their college and execute that honorably. I believe the leadership and influence of the SGA senate is based on their integrity in pursuing the changes that the students of their college want to see. Whether that be implementing tutoring for a specific class or just checking in with their students, all actions should work towards collective success and positively make the student life at Embry-Riddle for the better."

  • How do you plan to elevate and communicate issues that your constituents are concerned about to the Senate?

"It is my hope that students can engage in conversations that turn into ideas and that transform into actions that can have a collaborative impact. By actively listening and emphasizing the problems at hand, I believe I have the capability to represent these thoughts in an honorable manner."

  • How will you improve the ERAU experience for your constituents?

"I hope that maintaining an open dialogue not only in my college but in others as well sparks initiative in the student body to have those conversations. The uncomfortable ones, the disagreeable ones, and most importantly, the ones that help strengthen our community. Because there can’t be change without the awkwardness and tension; all it takes is a spark to get those conversations started."
