Andrew Harker / The Avion
Junior, BS Aviation Business Administration
"My name is Chloe Christovich, and I am from Jacksonville Beach, FL. I'm a junior studying Aviation Business Administration, and this is my second year on campus. I'm an RA under Housing and Residence Life, a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and I am the manager of the College of Business Social Media Marketing Team. I am running for COB Senator because I want to make it easier for students to communicate their wants and needs within the college. I am a good fit for this position because I spend a lot of time in the college as a Social Media Marketing team member and then manager. I am involved with many of the students in the college as well as the administration. I feel as though my connection between students and administration can help make the changes students want. I hope to make the college a safe space for collaboration with faculty, open conversation about possible improvements to be made, and foster an environment within the College that promotes growth, positivity, and success."
What makes you a qualified candidate for this position?
"I am a good fit for this position because I spend a lot of time in the college as a Social Media Marketing team member and then manager. I am involved with many of the students in the college as well as the administration. I feel as though my connection between students and administration can help make the changes students want. I hope to make the college a safe space for collaboration with faculty, open conversation about possible improvements to be made and to foster an environment within the College that promotes growth, positivity, and success. I have heard some students say that they are not always satisfied with some of their courses, professors, and other aspects of the college. I want to change that. I feel as though because I have so much experience in the college and extensive knowledge of the College of Business and the administration and their values, as well as a good network of fellow students, I can truly compare the best options for the student body that still aligns with the College of Business."
What is the purpose of the SGA Student Senate?
"The purpose of the SGA Senate, to me, is to be a liaison for students who are not sure how to speak up for themselves and their needs and wants. SGA senators should be members of the student body that people can trust. Not only as a person to talk to but also as someone who can be trusted to listen and act upon their words. This in itself is arguably the most important trait of a senator or prospective senator. Candidates should not be someone who is afraid to speak, they should be those who feel empowered to speak up for themselves and their peers. Further, they should be someone who can professionally present themselves and the student body in the best way possible. To me, SGA Senators are incredibly important, as they are the "middle-man" for many conversations that can spark change and unite the student body, specifically in my case, the students within the College of Business."
How do you plan to elevate and communicate issues that your constituents are concerned about to the Senate?
"To ensure that my constituents' voices are heard, I will personally continue to voice concerns to peers and administration, confirming that others are aware of what we are working towards. Continuing conversations with the connections I already have will help to reinforce the trust my constituents can have in me. Further, I want to ensure that while the College of Business may be a small percentage of students on this campus, we still have a voice and a say in what happens around campus. I will do this by uniting these students by hosting events in collaboration with other colleges within the university. These events will be focused on uniting the student body. I would also like to host "town halls" that allow students to voice concerns or comments in a safe space while ensuring they are heard. Communication is incredibly important to me, and I want to stress that as a senator, voices from the students must be heard to enact change, and the best way to allow students to speak freely is by creating a safe space. I will not allow anyone to feel silenced for any reason, and I will stand by this for my entire time at Embry-Riddle."
How will you improve the ERAU experience for your constituents?
"I will enhance my constituents' time at Riddle by ensuring that their voices are heard. Communication is incredibly important to me, and I want to stress that as a senator, voices from the students must be heard to enact change, and the best way to allow students to speak freely is by creating a safe space. I will not allow anyone to feel silenced for any reason, and I will stand by this for my entire time at Embry-Riddle. I will listen to my peers and ensure that any of my personal opinions do not stand in the way of giving everyone a chance to make the change they need. I want students to be able to speak freely, as keeping concerns to themselves can only further the harboring of bad thoughts. I want everyone to feel blessed that they get to earn their degree from the David B. O'Maley College of Business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University."
