Hello everyone!
I’m so excited for everyone who is ready to get started with gymnastics! My name is Ciara Sandell, I’m the president/team captain of the gymnastics team here; I started the team in January 2021, and it’s grown a lot since then and I’m really looking forward to this year!
I hope this email can provide you with all the information you need for the semester. Should you have any more questions or wish there to be a quick meeting for me to clarify the information provided, please reply to this email! I would be more than happy to meet with anyone/everyone who has questions!
General Info & Discord
· Please join the Discord! It’s an easy way to communicate with everyone on the team and ask questions. https://discord.gg/wQRVknye8U
· It is recommended to have prior experience in gymnastics, reach out to me (Ciara) if you don’t have any experience or want more information on this.
Practice! - Address, Time, and Payment
· We are hoping to start practice next week. The gym lost power during the hurricane, but is otherwise completely fine! We are waiting for power to be restored for practice to begin, I will update everyone as soon as I get word of the official start date. Once practice begins, it will be weekly, Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30-7:45.
- If your schedule conflicts with this, you will likely have to wait until your schedule allows for you to be available as practice is usually during this time slot and there is little flexibility with the facility we use.
· We practice with Daytona Beach Gymnastics at the Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. The gym entrance is through the side of the building, near the back.
- If it's your first time going, I can give you a map of the parking lot and building, but you will see other people on the team enter through this door when you get there, don't be afraid to reach out if you need help!
· Angela Gowell (Coach Angie) runs the program, and trained staff supervise practice, although it is mostly up to you what you work on with the time we have there. This is a fun, recreational workout, it’s not a competitive or formally led class, so be prepared to have fun, and enjoy getting some movement into your day!
· Practice will be approximately $150 for the entire semester, more information to come on how and where to pay this money to. This amount includes the fee due to Daytona Beach Gymnastics for use of the facility and coaching, and $20 club dues to Embry-Riddle Gymnastics Team (ERGT) to facilitate club growth and fund events.
- There will be a waiver to sign before you begin practice to ensure everyone's safety, it will be sent to everyone before practice starts to fill out via email or URL.
Practice Essentials – What to Bring
· Bring a water bottle!
· Put your hair up if you have long hair 😊
· Wear flip-flops (or shoes that are easy to take off and put on), shoes are not allowed on the mats/equipment in the gym to protect them.
· If you would like to wear athletic socks, feel free to purchase your own and wear them at practice; they must have grip on the bottom! Recommended products:
· Wear whatever you are comfortable working out in that has lots of stretch/room for movement: t-shirt, leggings, shorts, tank top, etc. Preferably covers the midriff per Coach Angie’s policy for the gym.
As always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me via email (sandellc@my.erau.edu), phone (call or text!) (850)339-7649, or Discord (you should be able to message me directly once you join the server).
Sincerely,
Ciara Sandell
